Condominium Owners ban Smoking

I'm really getting confused... IS this still a FREE country?

Condominium owners tell smokers: Take it outside

This is indeed a slippery slope - where does it stop?

  • Ban watching PG-13 or above movies because someone my hear a bad word.
  • Ban non-organic food because the pesticides get into the air and can harm humans.
  • Ban certain cleaning or pest control products (even though they are legal) because the residue may be harmful.
  • Ban private religious activity because you don't want someone summoning Satan (or the stay puff marshmallow man) next door.
  • Ban entering the building if you are sick (germs can spread easier than smoke)
  • Ban having a Gun in the building even if you have a license
  • Ban scented candles or air fresheners (I'm extremely allergic to some of these items)
  • Ban any music or other sound that can be heard outside the condo, even if only during t he time the door is opened to come in or out.
  • Ban Sex (it doesn't physically harm anyone, but it makes the people not getting any feel bad and thus effect the mental health of people living in the condos)

Fence is orange; neighbors see red

I don't know all the facts of this, but it seems like the HOA didn't allow this guy to connect an entrance to his property to a road on their property. As a result the land owner can't sell or lease his land to a Bank, or to any other business for that matter because of access, parking issues. Again I don't know all the facts and maybe he has options. But I assume the land is "zoned" for business, but the HOA won't allow what is a reasonable use of the land. The HOA certainly is within it's rights to grant or not grant driveway access to/through it's land, but they should reconsider. A bank might no be as bad as a orange fence. The HOA must accept the fact that they don't own that land and can't control it. They can't use their control of access as leverage, but they have to allow this guy to use his land from something, or they will get something worse.

The city should stay out of it. As long as neither side does anything clearly against code, the city should not put them under a microscope looking for minor violations. Let them work it out themselves.

RV parking rules

Brevard revisits RV parking rules | floridatoday.com | Serving Brevard County and Florida’s Space Coast

Our county commissioners have too much time on their hands. Where are people supposed to park their RV's if they can't park them on their own property? What is the point of OWNING property if you can't use it as you want to.

If you want to control your neighbor's property, then BUY it.. otherwise deal with it. [This Post Continues after the jump...]

City puts bite in 'no barking' ordinance

With cities like this.... who needs Home Owner Associations....
(For those of you how don't get it... Cities = Friends (normally) while HOA = Enemy)

An outright ban on owning a dog would probably not be accepted, but this round-about-way to ban it is! I wonder why? I guess it is kind of like the frog that get cooked because it cannot sense a slow rise in water temperature. People just don't sense these encroachments on our rights.

The Daily Commercial | City puts bite in 'no barking' ordinance

UPDATE
http://www.wftv.com/news/14100550/detail.html
It seems people are in an uproar over this... as they should be! Which proves my point that "city government" is large enough to have enough diversity (of opinion if nothing else) to protect people's rights. Small HOA simply do not. I'm sure a rule like this would pass easily in a bunch of HOA across the country. People think "I don't have a dog" or "My small dog's bark can't be heard outside the house" so why should I care about and protect other people's rights. It's only when you have enough people, so of which that think "wait a minute, I have a dog, and he barks more than 3 times a day." that people are moved to protect their own and other people's rights.

The best quote form the above link: "I'm a little perplexed myself at how much publicity this has generated," said police chief Randy Scoggins."

Could this guy be any more clueless?? What did he think would happen with a law that tickets a dog owner for having a dog that does ..well it does what dogs do -- BARK.

Also - Mt. Dora's chief of police said he got a telephone call all the way from London, England. A reporter for the BBC believes the city's plan to quiet barking dogs goes too far. [This Post Continues after the jump...]

Toilet sign is free speech

The infuriating part is that if there was a HOA in this neighborhood, this sign would NOT be allowed (or more specifically, the HOA would be allowed to force this sign to be removed.)

This is where I don't understand HOA's. If the Constitution limits the power of the federal, state, and local governments, it should also limit the power of a HOA. But for some reason it doesn't.

HOAs come to LEGO-TOWN

Well, it's not in the form of a Home Owners Association, but it has the same ideas. Namely that "ownership" isn't worth much or is actually BAD.

TCS Daily:L'Eggo My Lego

The Legos were returned and the children allowed to continue building their "legotown" only after they agreed to some guiding principles framed by the teachers, including that...

"All structures are public structures" [no private ownership]

"All structures will be standard sizes." [no deviation from the accepted norm in size]

"It's important to have the same amount of power as other people over your building."
[i.e. OWNING the building means nothing]

"For Sale" sign banned?

In 2003, Pagan parked a 1970 Mercury Cougar with a “for sale” sign in front of his Sharon Road home. But Glendale police threatened to cite him under an ordinance forbidding such signs on vehicles in public areas.

The village has argued in court that commercial signs are regulated for safety reasons, on the chance that “careless, irresponsible people might get run over while looking at them..."
